Civil registry

The Civil Registry files hold information about the birth, marriage and deaths of a long historical period. The ensemble of sources is divided in two sections:

Napoleonic Registry civil of Savona (1806-1813).
Carloalbertine registry civil of the town of Savona (1838-1865), including the second copy of the birth and baptism, marriage and death records of the town’s parishes.
Italian Registry Civil of the communes of the Savona Court district (1866-1935).

Army census

The Military District of Savona fund preserves the lists of conscription for the municipalities of the districts of Albenga and Savona for the classes 1876-1935. It has a research tool.
In the fund Harbour Master’s Office of Savona keeps the lists of sea conscription of Savona district for the classes 1901-1927 and Imperia district for the classes 1900-1927.
The Municipality of Savona fund preserves the lists of conscription for the classes 1792-1882.

Recruitment number and military draw number

The Military District of Savona fund contains the series of sheets (classes 1880-1897; 1906- 1946) and the matriculation rolls of military troops (classes 1866-1945) and non-commissioned officers (classes 1879-1918), with the relevant headings.

Databases

A database of last names taken from the birth certificates of the Savona City Registry between 1838 and 1865 is available for consultation at this institute.

These files are composed by Recruitment Lists and extraction lists of the cities of the Sassari, Alghero, Ozieri and Tempio circumscriptions. The following classes are held at the Sassari Recruitment Office file (1841-1926), These files are composed by Recruitment Lists and extraction lists of the cities of the Sassari, Alghero, Ozieri and Tempio circumscriptions.

The Sassari Military District holds the Draft Cards (classes of 1850-1906) and matriculation sheets (1920-1944).

Civil registry

The Salerno State Archive holds the Civil Registry files, that is to say, the duplicates of the birth, marriage and death certificates and the Attached files (marriage processes) issued between 1809 and 1865 by the city registers of the province. New documents from the Salerno (until 1955) and Nocera inferiore (until 1945) Civil Registry have been recently acquired, while the Sala Consilina and Vallo della Lucania registries are still in their respective Courts.

The archive Salerno Recruitment Office holds the Recruitment Lists of the classes between 1837 and 1949.

The Salerno Military Districtholds the draft cards, which contain detailed information about the military service and campaigns, the Army corps in which the privates and non-commissioned officers of the classes of 1842-1930 and 1939-1943 served until their discharge.

Online Sources

The institute provides a database containing army census. The computerised conscription lists cover the chronological span from 1837 to 1916. Due to dispersions over time, not all conscription lists have been received and therefore one or more years may be missing for some municipalities.

Civil registry

The Rimini State Archive holds the Civil Registry files of the Rimini Province (1866-1910). In the Historical Archive of the Municipality of Rimini, the Napoleonic Register of Births (1806-1815) concerning the Municipality of Rimini is preserved, as well as a register of the Municipality of Montescudo; the Birth Certificates (circa 1777-1894) with extracts of birth and baptismal certificates.

Army census

The Rimini Maritime Department Recruitment Office holds the Recruitment Lists (1888-1904 e 1941-1943).

The remaining classes (1839-1870) are held at the Bologna State Archive.

The Historical Archive of the Municipality of Rimini contains the Military Lever – National Guard (1799-1896) fund with the registers of matriculates and deserters.

Civil registry

The Rieti State Archive holds the Civil Registry from the City of Borbona from 1809 to 1865 (the marriage series is not completeno); two registries contain data about population movement (1852-1900;1890-1900). The Civil Registry de Fiamignano contains complete series from 1809 to 1865. The Civil Registry from Rieti Court, holds the series of the birth, marriage, death and citizenship certificates, the marriage announcements and the decennial indexes from 1861 to 1960. Those files are accompanied by descriptive inventories (until 1918) and are available for consultation, except for the files subject to data protection regulation. The Ancestry portal publishes the digital copies of the Civil Registry from 1861 on, and, only for Poggio Perugino, for the period previous to the unification of Italy.

The sources are divided in: Recruitment Registries of the Cittaducale, at the L’Aquila District, of the classes of from 1857 to 1860, from 1888 to 1922, from 1925 to 1944; Recruitment Registries of Rieti, at the Orvieto Military District, from 1884 to 1894 and from 1917 to 1922; Extraction lists of the Cittàducale circumscription, from 1858 to 1890 and from 1901 to 1905; Extraction lists of the Rieti circumscription from 1880 to 1890 and from 1902 to 1908. For any other city of the Rieti province included in the Orvieto Military District and later in the Rome Military District, only the recruitment registers from 1926 to 1944 have been conserved

This institute holds sporadic documents: there are also the parish books of Rieti and the annexes of Casette, Castelfranco, Cerchiaria, Maglianello, Moggio, Poggio Fidoni, Poggio Perugino, San Benedetto, Sant’Elia and San Giovanni Reatino (1560-1860).

Civil registry

The Ravenna State Archive holds the Ravenna Napoleonic Civil Registry files (1806-1813), which includes cities as Castiglione, Cervia, Cesenatico, Mezzano, Piangipane, Roncalceci, Russi, San Pietro in Vincoli, Sant’Alberto, Santerno and San Zaccaria as well. The Civil Registry files of Bagnacavallo, Brisighella, Faenza, Fognano (Brisighella) and Russi are held at the Forli State Archive.

Army census

The files Ravenna Province Recruitment Office (classes of 1854-1917), Ravenna Captaincy Navy Recruitment Office (classes of 1922-1982) and the Rimini Captaincy Navy Recruitment Office (classes of 1941-1982) hold the Recruitment Lists of young male residents of the circumscription called to the examination visit. The series are not complete, since some lists (the ones from Ravenna, Faenza and Lugo) of the 1839-1879 classes are filed at the Bologna State Archive.

The Ravenna Military District contains the Draft Cards (classes of 1866-1870). The Draft Cards of the classes of 1879-1893 are filed at the Bologna and Forlì State Archive (classes of 1871-1925).

There are various series of registers, from 1682 to 1958, relating to children abandoned at the orphanage of Ravenna preserved in the funds: Brefotrofio degli exposed, Hospital of S. Maria delle Croci, Municipal assistance body (E.C.A.)of Ravenna. The acts contain the name, date of birth or arrival, the names of the people to whom the children is given and, in some cases, the paternity certificate signed by the biological parents.

Civil registry

The Reggio Calabria State Archive holds the Civil Registry (1809-1944) from 1809-1865, which contains the duplicates of the birth, marriage and death certificates and the “Different Act” series of all the cities in the province. Apart from the registers, the archive includes the Attached files (marriage processes) series. For the period between 1866 and 1900 the duplicates of the birth, marriage, death and citizenship certificates and the marriage announcements from Reggio Calabria and Locri-Gerace are available for consultation. For 1901 to 1944 the institute holds the local registries of the cities of the Reggio Calabria circumscription; the Palmi circumscription files are not yet available for consultation.

The archive Reggio Calabria Recruitment Office holds the Recruitment Lists of the young males of the classes of 1834-1944 residents in the district, whom, once age 20, were called to recruitment examination.

The Reggio Calabria State Archive holds around 63000 cards Information of Army and Navy soldiers Office, Reggio Calabria Subsection (1915-1918) is available Reggio Calabria Subsection (1915-1918),which concern to the dead, wounded or missing soldiers of the province during World War I. The cards contain information for name, paternity, degree, military records, corps, regiment, battalion, company, class and health (not all the blanks have been filled). The office was created in 1915 by Lina Bianconcini Cavazza and other bolognese women of noble origin. Their central office was in Bologna, but there were sections all around Italy. This archive allows us to know more about the World War I soldiers of the province.

Marital status

The State Archives in Messina preserve the civil status records, introduced in 1819 by the Bourbon system, are collected in the fund entitled Civil Status (1820-1865). It includes the birth, marriage and death certificates issued by the city registers of the whole current Province of Messina. Almost all the attached files are missing.

– List of conscription (1840-1948).

The fund called the Conscription Office conserves the land conscription lists for males born and resident in the municipalities of the Messina, Castroreale, Patti and Mistretta districts (1840-1948) and the sea conscription lists for the classes 1876-1985.

Matriculation sheets and roles

The Matriculation Rolls fonds contain matriculation rolls for the classes (born ) between 1874 and 1911, privates and non-commissioned officers enlisted in various corps.

Civil registry

The Ragusa State Archive holds the Civil Registry from the Ragusa and Modica Courts Civil Registry which contains the duplicates of the birth, marriage, death and citizenship certificates (mostly residence changes from 1866) of the cities of the current Ragusa Province, which were issued between 1820 and the 20th century. Only the documents from 1900 to 1911 are available by now.

All files related to recruitment have been gathered at Recruitment Lists – Ragusa Provincial Office. These lists include all male residents born between 1857 and 1949 in Ragusa, Siracusa, and Catania.

The military records of the municipalities of the province of Ragusa are kept at the State Archives of Siracusa.

Civil registry

Il fondo Atti dello stato civile della provincia di Potenza contains the duplicates of the birth, marriage and death certificates, as well as the memorandum registers (which contain the marriage announcements and the personal data of the marrying couple), and the attached files and marriage processes different acts (in which are listed the children dead during labor, the sentences of rectification of the Civil Registry, the death certificates from abroad, the removals of dead bodies and adoption sentences). The Acts comprise the years between 1809 and 1865. This institution holds the Archive Information of Army and Navy soldiers Office – Potenza subsection (1915-1919) formed by 37 files that gather 42.000 cards, written by volunteers during World War I. The cards contain personal data of the dead, wounded or missing soldiers and their families. The digitalization is currently in course.
