How can we help you?

The Contact form lists some of the most frequently asked questions and provides users with the opportunity to report anomalies, deficiencies and/or typos found in the indexing of records, deeds, master records and/or locations.

In order to make the activity of verifying the reports and managing any revisions that need to be made effective, we ask that you report typos, shortcomings and critical issues–discovered during searches of the records and names–in a clear and timely manner, attaching the reference link, and without multiple submissions for communications related to the same error.

It should be noted that the Portal does not conduct genealogical research on behalf of users or provide help in doing so, but makes documentation available to carry out the consultation independently. Also, please note that in the Tools section you can find supporting information for conducting research.

In addition, to ensure the effectiveness of our work, we ask:

  • Do not ask for contact information and contacts of State Archives or other entities (municipalities, dioceses, etc.);
  • Do not ask for certificates and/or copies of matriculation sheets to be issued and sent. Please note that the Ancestors Portal does not provide this service. The Certificate Requests page provides guidance and insights useful in obtaining the above documentation;
  • Not to ask what the forecasts and publication timelines of Archives or specific municipalities/provinces are. The planning is shared with FamilySearch and the State Archives on the basis of technical and scientific parameters. To be informed about the latest publications of registers and names and read all their details (consistency, chronological details, number of images), users are invited to consult the dedicated sections of the Portal: Latest published archives and The indexes of published names;
  • Not to ask how to contribute to indexing or to report any problems encountered on the Family Search site. As of today, in fact, it is only possible to contribute to the indexing of records by participating in the projects on the Family Search Italian Projects page. Please contact Family Search directly if you have any problems with the registration and indexing activities;
  • Do not ask how to download images. It will be possible, in the future, to register and access a user area of the Portal where you will be able to download images. The availability of the user area and all instructions for accessing and using it will be indicated on the Portal;
  • Do not ask how to share your family stories. On the Tell your story page, you can access the specific form to submit your genealogical research experiences and see them published on the Read family stories page.

Thank you for your cooperation
