“Il Tempo” reports on the Ancestors Portal: millions of documents for the memory of Italian families

In today’s edition of Il Tempo (Feb. 6, 2026, p. 23), an article by Gabriele Simongini celebrates the value of the Antenati Portal, calling it a pillar for the protection of the country’s historical and civil memory. The headline highlights the excellence of the platform promoted by the Ministry of Culture, which guarantees citizens, scholars and Italian-descendants free access to millions of birth, death and marriage records held in the State Archives, thus facilitating the rediscovery of family roots and collective identity.

The contribution also underscores the commitment of the General Directorate of Archives, headed by Antonio Tarasco, in transforming places of preservation into true “civil presidia.” In fact, through advanced research tools, methodological insights and stories of family histories, the Ancestors Portal does not merely offer a consultation of data, but intends to “strengthen democratic consciousness and remind that memory is a duty that concerns the present and the future.”
